Retailers realize that attracting and retaining talented associates is essential, but this is a growing challenge in the competitive 2019 landscape.
The strong economy and tight job market have complicated longtime hurdles in securing talent. Further pressuring the situation is the growth of omnichannel retailing, as companies are forced to make decisions on levels of investments in different platforms.
At The NGA Show this year, a People Development Workshop Track will delve into these and related issues to help independent retailers formulate strategies.
Workshop topics will include skills-based training for store associates, recruiting with the support of regional labor market information, promoting employee health and wellness, and identifying and developing high potential leaders.
The stakes are especially high when it comes to attracting associates from younger generations, because these job candidates have more options today.
A workshop will directly examine “The Future Workforce: Attracting the Next Generation.” This session will address subjects ranging from work expectations of younger employees to the unique skills students are learning today.
That subject will be further illuminated in the NGA Student Case Study Competition, an annual popular feature of The NGA Show. In this year’s contest, teams of students representing different universities will compete to develop the best solutions for hiring and retaining Millennials and multicultural associates. This judged competition lasts over a couple of days, and concludes with a finalist faceoff between two schools.
Meanwhile, in addition to learning about hiring and retention at The NGA Show, you will have an opportunity to explore a wide range of other industry trends during educational sessions and on the Expo floor. Join us in San Diego, February 24-27, 2019.
