Karla Ash is Vice President of Human Resources for Gelson’s Markets, a Southern California–based grocery chain with 26 stores. She leads enterprise-wide people strategy, supporting talent acquisition, workforce planning, labor relations, and leadership development across both union and non-union environments, while helping the organization adapt to an evolving workforce and consumer landscape.

A Human Resources professional with a HeaRt for the company’s greatest asset—its people—Karla is known as a relatable leader, strategic thinker, and collaborative partner. She brings 20 years of grocery industry experience and has led initiatives focused on culture, operational excellence, wage modernization, and leadership growth during times of change and disruption.

As a wife and busy mom of three, Karla brings a deeply personal understanding of the balance employees seek between performance, flexibility, and family. This perspective shapes her people-first approach and commitment to creating workplaces where individuals can thrive both professionally and personally.

Karla is also deeply committed to community impact, serving as a leader of the Gelson’s Foundation and an active member of Women Grocers of America, supporting education, food security, and meaningful community engagement.
